June 28, 2013
Trainer Ron Moosman saddles six horses – topped by the two fastest qualifiers – to hold a dominating hand in the $38,667 Ed Giles Futurity on Saturday at Laurel Brown racetrack.
JR Stables’ fastest-qualifier JR Czech Swing (Swingin Jess-JR Corona Jazz by Corona Czech) and Jim Nebeker’s second-fastest qualifier Josie Bassett (Makinmoves-Eyes Rockin On by Mr Eye Opener) won their trials and set the pace for the Moosman barn.
JR Czech Swing has won each of her three starts, highlighted by a close nose win in the Beehive Futurity. She came back in her Giles trial to win by 2 1/4 lengths while nearly losing her rider. She was timed in :17.334 for 350 yards to win the third of five trials.
Josie Bassett won her maiden in her first start and then was winless in two starts before taking her Giles Futurity trial in the second-fastest time of :17.452. She won by a half length.
The remaining Moosman qualifiers are RF One Famous Okey (One Famous Eagle-Separate Cocktails by Corona Cocktail), Bvlgari B (Tac It Like A Man-Mr Perrys Effort by Mr Jess Perry), Otta Be Gone (Winners Version-Otta Be Special by Proudest Effort) and Winners Makeasplash (Winners Version-Splash Maker by Maknmoves).
Challenging the Moosman barrage is Amber Spencer’s homebred Champagnediamond (Winners Version-Calyx Femme by Calyx), who has three wins and a close second to JR Czech Swing in the Beehive Futurity. After his second in the Beehive, the Chancey Spencer-trained gelding won his Giles trial by 1 1/2 lengths with the third-fastest time of :17.548.
