LF Star Jumper Wins Animas Stakes

Owner/trainer Gabino Carrillo takes first and third in SunRay Stakes.

LF Star Jumper jumped out to an early lead in Sunday’s $35,000 Animas Stakes at SunRay Park and went on to win by 1 ¼ lengths at odds of 6-1. Piloted by Macario Rodriguez for owner/trainer Gabino Carrillo, the California-bred gelding by Jumpn won the 400-yard race for 3-year-olds in :19.430.

Bred by Jaime Gomez out of the Flying Victor mare My Stars, LF Star Jumper began his career at Los Alamitos, where he broke his maiden last June. The gelding then moved on to Ruidoso Downs and captured an allowance contest. As a 3-year-old, LF Star Jumper made three starts at Sunland Park with a victory in a claiming race before making his SunRay and stakes debut in the Animas. His record now stands at 9-4-2-0 with earnings of $40,180.

Currie Maben’s homebred Jess Rueben James, a maiden who went off at odds of 32-1, finished second. JJ In Motion, also owned and trained by Gabino Carrillo, crossed the wire third. Both Jess Rueben James and JJ In Motion are by Jesse James Jr.
