Casey Foster’s Lil Chicks Corona and George Seward’s Jessamystery, each trained by Robert “Bob” Johnson, hold the top-two qualifying positions for the Fort Pierre Open Futurity on Sunday afternoon at the race’s namesake track in South Dakota.

Lil Chicks Corona (Chicks Regard-Lil Diamond Cartel by Corona Cartel) ran like an even-money favorite when she won her trial by 2 1/4 lengths. She was making her first start in the first of three trials and was timed in :14.193 for the 250 yards on a muddy track.

Jessamystery (Jesse James Jr-Easter Mystery by Meter Me Gone) was the odds-on choice in her trial and responded with a three-quarter-length victory. She stopped the timer in :14.296 while racing in the mud.

Tom Maher’s Hot Dashing Doll (Corona Caliente-Baby Doll Dash by Dash Easy) was second to Jessamystery in their trial. Her :14.411 time was the third-fastest mark. She is conditioned by Ernest Fennell.
