Anna Garcia and Jose Orquiz’s Im Royal Quick, winner of two stakes last fall, appears to be ready to score another stakes win in his 2013 stakes debut in the $35,000 Marathon Stakes over 870 yards at SunRay Park on Sunday afternoon.

Last fall at Zia Park, Im Royal Quick (Royal Quick Dash-Im Brendas Baby by Merridoc) came through in his only two stakes appearances when he won the $55,000 Hermann Jefferson Stakes (G3) by 5 3/4 lengths and then two starts later won the $55,000 King Rick Rack Stakes. In each of these races, he was able to gain the early lead and then sprinted away from his rivals through the stretch.

Im Royal Quick returned from a five-month layoff at Sunland Park on April 14 to take a $35,000 allowance race at Sunland Park by 3 lengths with his usual front-running style.

Hugo Barron Sierra’s Oh Jess Fly (Fly Jess Fly-Oh What A Perks by Dash For Perks) takes a step up in class after three-straight wins, all at Sunland Park over 870 yards. The gelding won for a $12,500 claiming tag and then won a pair of optional-claiming races. He also prefers to go to the front, so he may be able to pressure Im Royal Quick.

George and Judy Weldon’s Jess A Traffic Jam (Feature Mr Jess-Traffic Ten Too by Dash Thru Traffic) travelled from the Northwest and made a pair of starts at Sunland Park. The Rust Blake-trained gelding was second in his Red Cell Sunland Park Distance Challenge (G3) trial and then came back to finish third in the finals behind champion All About Larry and the highly-regarded DM Streakn Thru Fire.
