After several close finishes against stakes company, Brock Broussard’s Heza Fast Rogue prevailed as the heavy favorite in Saturday’s $35,000 Billy Montgomery Stakes (R) for state-breds at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs. Piloted by Donald Watson for trainer Kevin Broussard, the 3-year-old Heza Fast Dash colt won by three-parts of a length in :17.772 for 350 yards.

This marked the fifth win in 11 starts for Heza Fast Rogue and pushed his lifetime earnings to $190,421. The colt had finished fourth or better in four graded stakes prior to this effort, including third-place runs in the Louisiana QHBA Sale Futurity (RG1) and Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile (RG2). The winner was bred by Triple M Farms LLC out of the stakes-winning Mr Jess Perry mare Miss Jess Rogue.
Jesse Rodriguez Jr.’s TF Jess A Runaway, a filly by Sir Runaway Dash, took second at odds of 23-1. Heza Fast Dash also sired the third-place finisher, Nathan Granger’s Heza Dashing Lajolla.
