Furious Jess Upsets Bitterroot Futurity
Fly Jess Fly gelding prevails by a neck in one of Les Bois Park’s marquee events.

Furious Jess broke out on top of the field in Monday’s $100,000 Bitterroot Futurity (RG3) at Les Bois Park and held on to win by a neck for his first stakes victory. Ridden by Paul Greene for trainer Ron Moosman, the gelding by Fly Jess Fly earned a 97 speed index for the 350-yard trip timed in :17.729.
Bred in Utah by The Running A LLC and owned by Gloria Martineau of Salt Lake City, Furious Jess broke his maiden at first asking with a three-length victory at Laurel Brown Racetrack in late April. The gelding then finished a close third in his Bitterroot trial with the ninth-fastest qualifying time. The 14-1 longshot earned $40,000 for his effort in the final to go along with prior earnings of $468.
Lin Melton and Spackman Racing’s Dynasty Red, a Mexican-bred gelding by FDD Dynasty, finished a game second to earn a $20,000 paycheck. Eddie and Andrea Jensen’s Go For Sixes, a Utah-bred gelding by Sixes Royal, got up for third. Fastest qualifier and 6-5 betting favorite Makn A Legacy had trouble at the break and finished sixth.
Earlier on the card, JR Stables’ JR Dynasty Mountain ran his record to a perfect three-for-three with a head victory in the $10,000 Bitterroot Juvenile Stakes (R). The Nevada-bred colt by FDD Dynasty dashed 350 yards in :17.525 with Uriel Dominguez up for trainer Ron Moosman.
On Saturday’s card at Les Bois, the $29,130 Bitterroot Derby (R) ended in a dead-heat with Alittlebitofivory and Miss Perry Bug finishing on even terms with a 400-yard sprint in :20.180.
Alittlebitofivory, ridden by Dirk Crane for trainer Bret Vickery, improved his earnings to $16,402 with a record of 10-3-4-1. This marked the first career stakes victory for the Ivory James gelding, who was bred in Colorado by owner Larry Stewart.
Jill and Glen Jamison’s homebred Miss Perry Bug also earned her first stakes victory and fourth overall win in six trips to the post. The Idaho-bred daughter of Dashing Jess Perry now has earnings of $13,145. Jess Chance rode for trainer Mike Scudder.
