May 3, 2013
Trainer Matt Fales, who swept last week’s $44,275 AQRA Open Spring Futurity and $34,960 AQRA Open Spring Derby, looks prepared to keep his season-ending hot streak alive when his fastest-qualifier Capital Eye heads three members of his barn in the $64,362 Desert Classic Futurity on Friday at Turf Paradise.
Joining Capital Eye (Ivory James-Fantastic Six by Mr Eye Opener) are Heat Warning (A Regal Choice-Its A Dry Heat (TB) by Dixieland Heat) and So You See (Azyoucansee-Genuine Rocks by Rocky Jones).
Womack/Cavender Farms’ Capital Eye came through as the favorite when he made his career debut in the first of three trials. The gelding volleyed for the early lead and then pulled out to the one-half-length win in :15.868 for 300 yards.
Carolyn and Ralph Fales’ homebred Heat Warning also impressed while making his first start in the trials. The gelding pulled away to a length trial win. His time of :16.137 stood up as the fifth-fastest qualifying mark.
Another Fales homebred, So You See, will need to step forward in the futurity after finishing sixth behind Capital Eye with the eighth-fastest time.
YN Horse Stables’ Jess Feelin Blue (Jess Louisiana Blue-Polynesia by Separatist) was second to Capital Eye. Jess Feelin Blue’s time of :15.958 was the second-fastest qualifying mark. She was also making her career debut in the trials.
