March 28, 2013

C.D. Nava III’s JC My Diamond Man, the 3-1 morning-line favorite, faces a contentious nine-horse field over 550 yards in the $20,000 Harris County Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park on Friday night.

JC My Diamond Man (Streakin La Jolla-Chicks A Diamond by Chicks Beduino) has won eight of 15 starts at 550 yards and 10 of 20 outs at Sam Houston. The Brian Stroud-trained gelding was racing for a $5,000 claiming tag in late 2011 and came through with four-straight starter-allowance wins last year from 440 yards up to 870 yards. He winning streak ended when he was second in the $35,000 TQHA 550 Stakes. He then won an 870-yard allowance race.

Donna Mushinski’s Corona La Jolla (Tinys First Corona-Mary La Jolla by Streakin La Jolla) returns from a nearly five-month layoff for the Harris County. The Kie Mushinski-trained gelding concluded his 2012 campaign with a 1 1/4-length win at 870 yards.

Dark Horse Partnership’s Kite Flyer (Royal Quick Dash-Cymbidiam by Tommy De Great) also concluded last year with a win. The J.R. Basham trainee raced to his third win from six starts last year with a gate-to-wire victory over 870 yards in November. He also won the Governor’s Cup Marathon by a head in May at Sam Houston.
