Contentious Field in Paul Ford

The 550-yard Paul Ford Memorial Handicap sees a tough field.

Felix Gonzalez’s Frequentflyer steps up from two wins in the $20,000 claiming ranks to try 550 yards against a contentious field in the $20,000 Paul Ford Memorial Handicap on Friday night at Los Alamitos.

Frequentflyer (Bono Jazz-Flyagra by Bobby Beduino) will be making a large jump in class and distance after his two wins at 330 yards. The Jose Antonio Moreno-trained gelding won by three quarters of a length and then by a half length as the favorite in each race.

The distance should not be an issue for Jose and Gustavo De La Torre’s Mister Michael (Snowbound (TB)-Dash For Kate by First Down Dash). He was second in the Red Cell Turf Paradise Distance Challenge two starts ago and is the only horse in the race to have a start at a distance longer than 400 yards. He was not a threat in his Southern California Derby trial in his latest start for trainer Jose De La Torre.

Miguel Suarez and Ricardo Sepulveda’s Properly Snowbound (Snowbound (TB)-Properly by First Down Express) is looking for his first win since taking the Wild West Futurity 14 months ago. He is winless from three starts in 2012, but won four of five starts in 2011.
