October 6, 2013

After a daylight victory and the second-fastest qualifying time in the trials, Steve Kirks’ homebred Comal Blue returned to Will Rogers Downs on Sunday afternoon to score his first stakes win in the $95,000 Black Gold Division 350 Futurity (R).

Ridden by Randy Wilson and trained by Tana Pace, the Oklahoma-bred gelding by Ivory James prevailed by a neck as the 2-1 favorite in a time of :17.773 for 350 yards. The brown gelding broke his maiden in the trials, his second career start, by 2 ¼ lengths with a clocking of :17.447. This victory was worth $38,000 and pushed his career earnings to $43,982.

Valeriano Racing Stable LLC’s One Valiant Hero, a Valiant Hero colt who won the All American Juvenile Invitational (R), finished a game second with Bill Price’s homebred BP Coronas Policy, by Corona Cartel, in third.
