Charal Kid Wins Miss Polly Classic

Texas-bred also won Delta Downs stakes in 2010.

July 1, 2012

After suffering a disqualification for the win due to interference in last year’s $50,000 Miss Polly Classic at Delta Downs while attempting to take the race for the second consecutive year, Malinche Cattle Company Inc.’s homebred Charal Kid got to the finish line first again this year and stayed up for the victory.

Under jockey Martin Rubalcava, Charal Kid broke alertly and wore down his rivals in the 400-yard feature race. At the finish line he was just a nose better than Giorgino while Acorn, who was awarded the Miss Polly Classic win last year, finished third. Charal Kid covered the distance over a fast track in :19.469, which equaled a 101 speed index.

The victory by Charal Kid was the 15th of his 42-race career and it placed another $30,000 into his bankroll. The sorrel runner, who is now trained by Fructuoso Huitron, has amassed $391,860 in lifetime earnings.

Charal Kid is a 6-year-old gelding by Streakin La Jolla, out of the Strawfly Special mare The Special Feature. In addition to the 2010 Miss Polly Classic, the Texas-bred’s stakes victories include the Dash For Cash Derby (G1) and Sam Houston Derby (G2).
