Big Upset in Cherokee Challenge

Just Wannabe Postoak scores at odds of 30-1 at Will Rogers Downs.

October 20, 2012

Proving again that horses cannot read the toteboard, 30-1 longshot Just Wannabe Postoak prevailed by a neck in Saturday’s $52,400 Cherokee Challenge Stakes at Will Rogers Downs. The 4-year-old Oklahoma-bred gelding by Royal Blue Chew Chew dashed 300 yards in :15.322 with James Flores in the saddle for trainer Luis Villafranco and breeder/owner Noel L. Prieto of Canadian, Texas.

This race, for Bank of America Racing Challenge-enrolled horses, marked the first career stakes victory for Just Wannabe Postoak, who has three prior stakes placings including a second in last year’s Jack Brooks Stakes (RG3) at Remington Park. This victory, which was worth $30,930, improved Just Wannabe Postoak’s record to 25-4-6-2 with a bankroll of $113,265.

James Sills’ Tel A Story, a 3-year-old filly by Corona Cartel, finished a strong second with David Pinon up for trainer Eddie Willis. Tina and Dale Kolb’s Chics Delight, who won this same race in 2010, crossed the wire third. Grade 2 winner Sizzlin Cartel, the 8-5 favorite, finished sixth after bumping at the start.
