Arapahoe Holds Rocky Mountain Trials
More than 90 horses compete for spots in two rich finals at Colorado track.

Of the 53 2-year-olds competing in six trials to the Rocky Mountain Futurity on Friday at Arapahoe Park, Blue Eyed Visions clocked the fastest 350-yard time of :17.731 in winning the fifth trial. The victory was his second in a row following a 2 1/4-length maiden win on June 16. Trainer John Hammes saddled 15 horses in the trials and five qualified for the final. The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $100,000 final on Sunday, July 15, on the same day as the RMQHA and AQHA Day at the Races.

Also on Friday, Hugo Barron Sierra’s Baby I Like It extended his unbeaten streak at Arapahoe Park to five races and J and M Racing and Farm’s Kool Kue Country picked an opportune time to collect her first career win in her sixth lifetime start to be the top qualifiers of 40 3-year-olds in five trials for the $55,000 Rocky Mountain Derby. Colorado-bred Baby I Like It’s Arapahoe resume includes victories in the Cherry Creek Futurity (RG3) and Lucille Rowe Derby (R). The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet on Saturday, July 14.
