Rose Chandler’s Acorn could be favored to gain his 13th career win and seventh career stakes win when he races in the $20,000 Classic Chevrolet Heartbeat of America Stakes over 350 yards Saturday evening at Lone Star Park.

Acorn (Oak Tree Special-Trio Gal (TB) by Tasso) is in his usual consistent form for trainer Janet VanBebber. He was third in the $50,000 Miss Polly Stakes at Delta Downs two starts ago and then came back to finish second in the Shelton Stakes (RG3) at Retama Park. He was defeated by Charal Kid in each of those races.

The homebred Acorn has amassed $351,227 during his 23-race career. His graded stakes wins include the Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G1) and Sam Houston Derby (G2).

Denis and Julie Schoenhofer’s First Klas Fred (Fredricksburg (TB)-She Flies First Klas by Strawfly Special) was the 2009 champion 2-year-old gelding, with wins in the Ruidoso Futurity (G1) and the Hobbs America Futurity (G3). He then was third in the 2010 Rainbow Derby (G1).

First Klas Fred won last year’s running of the Classic Chevrolet Heartbeat of America Stakes (RG3) by one length as the 4-5 favorite for his most recent stakes win.

Raul Rubalcava’s Sunny D (Okey Dokey Dale-Sweethearts Lady by Some Dasher) raced to a second-place finish in the Fair Meadows Maturity two starts ago and then was third behind Charal Kid and Acorn in the Shelton after a troubled start. The Christian Rubalcava-trained gelding has been on the board in four of seven starts at 350 yards.
