Wagon Tales Tops Day 2 of All American Futurity Trials

Ruidoso Downs conducted trials yesterday and today for the $2.6 million All American Futurity (G1) and on Saturday will host trials for the $2.8 million All American Derby (G1), the richest race in American Quarter Horse racing history.

There were 14 Futurity trials yesterday and 14 more Futurity trials on today, with first posts at 11 a.m. Mountain time both days. The five fastest horses from both days qualify for the All American Futurity on Labor Day, September 2.

The 10 trials to the All American Derby will be contested tomorrow, with a first post at noon. The 10 fastest qualifiers race in the Derby on September 1, the day before the Futurity.

As in the finals of both the Futurity and Derby, all of the trials are held over 440 yards.

Wagon Tales
(PYC Paint You Wagon-Signs Zoomer by Shazoom) won the fourth trial in :21.021, also posting the fastest time of all the All American qualifiers. With Cody Jensen up for Judd Kearl, the bay colt defeated qualifiers Skuze Pleeze by a length and Fatal Policy another 1 1/ 2 lengths behind in third. Wagon Tales now has won three of five races, including the April 21 Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Juvenile Stakes (R), and has earned $165,061. Wagon Tales in the trials was making his first start since finishing third in the June 1 Heritage Place Futurity (G1). Bred by The Mixer Ranch at Edmond, Oklahoma, Wagon Tales is owned by JNB Enterprises LLC of Mission, Texas.

Skuze Pleeze
(Dashin Bye-Sixy Hemp by Sixarun) finished second by a length to Wagon Tales, clocking :21.177 in the fourth trial while finishing 1 1/2 lengths ahead of qualifier Fatal Policy. With G.R. Carter Jr. up for Tana Pace, the bay gelding came into the trials with an undefeated record of three consecutive wins, his most recent the $50,000 Easy Jet Stakes on June 2 at Remington Park. An earner of $54,234, Skuze Pleeze is a homebred racing for Joe L. Mills of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Wagon Full Of Gold (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Cheyennes Bullion by Bully Bullion) won the second trial in :21.331. Ridden by Jay Conklin for Wesley Giles, Wagon Full Of Gold won impressively by 2 3/4 lengths. The bay gelding was winning his second of three races and has earned $5,870. Wagon Full Of Gold broke his maiden on his second start, the May 24 trials to the Ruidoso Futurity (G1), and had not raced since being scratched from the June 9 Ruidoso Juvenile Invitational (R). Bred by Ezra Lee and Toby Dahl of Bayfield, Colorado, Wagon Full Of Gold races for Ezra Elton Lee, Jill B. Giles and Melvin Neugebauer of Bayfield.

Reagal Eagle (One Famous Eagle-Corona Deluxe by Corona Cartel) won the 13th trial in :21.366. The sorrel colt was ridden by Larry Gamez, who was in the irons for Eduado Gonzalez. An earner of $68,640, Reagal Eagle was scoring his second win, after breaking his maiden on his fourth start, the July 4 trials to the Rainbow Futurity (G1). Reagal Eagle finished fifth in the July 21 Rainbow final, though he was only a neck off the pace of the winning Ms First Prize Rose. Bred by Lucas Racing Inc. of New Market, Maryland, Reagel Eagle is owned by Nahum and Rosella G. Prieto of El Paso, Texas. In 2003, the Prieto family won the All American Futurity with By By JJ, who was trained by Juan Gonzalez.

Fatal Policy (First Down Dash-CC Policy by Corona Cartel) finished third in fourth trial, clocking :21.412 and finishing 2 1/2 lengths off the pace behind Wagon Tales and Skuze Pleeze. The sorrel gelding was ridden by Ricky Ramirez, who was in the irons for Blane Wood. A maiden from five races, Fatal Policy came into the trials off his best finish to date, when he finished second in a July 29 maiden event at Ruidoso. The earner of $3,335 is a homebred racing for Bill Price of Thackerville, Oklahoma.
