A total of 41 head were reported sold for $125,300 at the Utah sale.
The Utah Quarter Horse Fall Mixed Sale enjoyed a rise in both average and gross when the numbers were tallied Saturday at the Salt Lake Equestrian Park and Event Center in South Jordan. More than 700 people were in attendance.
The sale's overall gross rose by 25% to $125,300 on 41 head sold as compared to 34 head that grossed $100,200 last year. The sale average rose by 4% to $3,056 compared to $2,947 in 2013. The median saw an 11% decline from $2,250 in 2013 to $2,000 this year.
Milt Miller paid $10,500 for the high-seller, Hip 56 Winners Blue. Chad Richard consigned the filly by leading second crop sire of stakes winners Winners Version out of Bolexie Blue, by Chicks A Blazin. She is from the family of stakes winner Preacher James.
Nielson Brown purchased Hip 37, A Good Move, from the consignment of Ron Moosman for $10,000. The colt by leading Intermountain sire Maknmoves is a full brother to stakes winner RM Looking For Fame and stakes-placed Makn Fame.
Lee Giles and Steve McIntyre sold Hip 62, Catch The Dough, for $7,100 to Vicki Lyons. The colt by Twoforthedough is out of the stakes-winning and stakes-producing Special Effort mare Catcha Special Chic.
Miller, Brown and Lyons were the sale's top three buyers with one purchase each.
Ron Moosman led all consignors with three head totaling $21,200. Cody Allred had four head total $19,900, and Chad Richard sold two yearlings for $15,000. Moosman and Allred were also partners on another yearling selling for $4,100.
Maknmoves led the yearling sale sires (by average, with two or more sold) with three head averaging $7,100. Brookstone Bay had two head for $5,100, and first crop sale sire First Prize Stone had two head $4,700.
First Prize Stone was also the sale's leading covering sire (by average, with two or more or sold) with three in-foal mares averaging $1,500.
