I Like The Odds
Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity (G1) winner I Like The Odds recently suffered what trainer Joe "Bear" Bassett believes to be a serious necrotic spider bite. This happened about two weeks after the Two Million final on December 11. The gelding, who is owned by Tom Bradbury, Kim Kessinger and Howard Nichols, is at a clinic in San Luis Rey Downs for medical care.
“The doctors are battling and treating it the best way they can, but it’s tough right now,” Bassett admitted. “His skin has been falling slowly around the bite and 10 days later he’s still losing skin. He’s been at San Luis Rey for about a week to 10 days. It could have been a recluse spider, but I don’t know for sure. It’s just been tough and it doesn’t look good.”
I Like The Odds was named the 2-year-old gelding of the meet in the 2011 Los Alamitos Media Poll.
Sired by Corona Cartel, I Like The Odds is out of the First Down Dash mare Fancys First Affair. He was bred by Bradbury and Kessinger. From seven lifetime starts, the gelding has won four races and been second twice, and earned $911,606.
