The first 2013 training race at Ruidoso Downs was won by Corona Habit ridden by Cody Jensen (hidden on outside with white cap and blue stripe).

Terry and Irene Stennett’s Sizzlin Mr Perry, who had made one start at Sam Houston Race Park, raced to the fastest time from 13 schooling races held on Monday at Ruidoso Downs.

The 300-yard training races, which were primarily non-starting 2-year-olds, will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 8:30 a.m.

The Blane Wood-trained Sizzlin Mr Perry was timed in :15.680 with Ricky Ramirez aboard. The Mr Jess Perry son was a $100,000 purchase at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale from breeder Bobby Cox.

In Sizzlin Mr Perry’s March 30 start at Sam Houston Race Park, he finished sixth in his Sam Houston Futurity trial.

Many of the two-year-olds competing in the Ruidoso Downs’s schooling races will return in the trials to the Grade 1, $750,000 Ruidoso Futurity on opening day of the summer season, May 24. Their other major objectives are probably the Grade 1, $1-million Rainbow Futurity and the Grade 1, $2.6-milllion All American Futurity.
