I attended the races at Louisiana Downs this past weekend, March 17-18, to visit and watch the $221,640 Harrah’s Futurity (G3) final. It was my first visit to Louisiana Downs and I was impressed with the entire complex, including the racetrack and the various amenities available throughout this racino complex. Saturday’s crowd was quite large due to a St. Patrick’s Day promotion and several key Thoroughbred races being run at Oaklawn Park and Fair Grounds.

In addition to being impressed with the facility, I was really impressed with the entire staff. From parking attendants to concession stand operators to tellers to buffet staff, they were courteous and thoughtful. I enjoyed myself and look forward to another visit.

The track’s 46-day meet ended Wednesday, and I heard it went very well for them. I’m hoping we might even be able to run a Bonus or Maiden Challenge race there in the future.

I’m looking forward to attending the New Mexico Regional Challenge Championship at Sunland Park on April 8 and the Texas Regional Challenge Championship at Sam Houston Race Park on April 14, so hopefully I’ll see some of you at one of these races. If not, you can contact me at dhare@aqha.org or call the Racing Challenge hotline at (877) 222-7223.

Best of racing luck to all of you as this new season is starting to get in high gear.
