Prairie Meadows Stall Applications Due July 6

Prairie Meadows Quarter Horse Racing Secretary Chad Keller would like to remind horsemen that stall applications for the 2012 Prairie Meadows American Quarter Horse meet, which begins August 18 and runs through October 27, are due on Friday, July 6.

American Quarter Horses will race on Fridays and Saturdays at 6:30 p.m. and on Sundays at 1:00 p.m. (CT). The 27-day format will be exclusive with eight or more Quarter Horse races each race day and an average of $160,000 per day in purses. The 2012 Quarter Horse stakes schedule, worth an estimated $2.5 million, will feature 14 graded races among 33 stakes overall.

This year, Prairie Meadows welcomes the nation’s top Quarter Horses to the $1,175,000 Bank of America Challenge Championships to be held here on Saturday, October 27, for the first time in the track’s history. Iowa Quarter Horse Champions Night on Friday, October 26, kicks off closing weekend with an all Iowa-bred race card that includes the Jim Bader Futurity, Polk County Derby, and the Restricted Grade 3 Terrace Hill Stakes.

Prairie Meadows Quarter Horse Champions Night on Saturday, October 13, features a trio of Grade 3 races, the $225,000-est. Valley Junction Futurity, $100,000-est. Altoona Derby and Two Rivers Stakes.

The Bank of America Prairie Meadows Regional Finals takes the spotlight on Saturday, September 15 highlighted by the $70,000-est. Bank of America Prairie Meadows Challenge Championship (G2). Labor Day weekend stakes include the finals of the Iowa Double Gold Futurity (RG3) and the Iowa Double Gold Derby along with the Iowa QHRA’s Fall Sale Futurity. Opening night will feature the Keokuk Stakes (G3) for older horses.
