Undefeated PJ Chick In Black, the fastest qualifier to the 54th running of the $2.4 million All American Futurity (G1) on Monday at Ruidoso Downs, will break from Post 8 in her bid to win American Quarter Horse racing's most famous race. The 440-yard race is the richest race for 2-year-olds of any breed in North America and is the closing-day feature of the 66th season of racing at Ruidoso Downs.

On August 30, post positions for the All American and Sunday's $2,234,539 All American Derby (G1) were determined at a brunch at Ruidoso, where lots first were drawn to determine the order in which the connections of the qualifiers for each race would choose their post positions. The PJ Chick In Black team received the third pick in the Futurity.

John Stinebaugh, who is looking for his first win in the race, trains PJ Chick In Black, along with qualifiers Krash Cartel and Just Wanna Corona. With Post 8, PJ Chick In Black will be between Krash Cartel in the 7 and Heritage Place Futurity (G1) winner BP Cartels Alibi, trained by Blane Wood, in the 9.

“I'm nervous for her because this horse (Krash Cartel) is super fast from the gate and so is he (BP Cartels Alibi) and she's right in the middle, so she better be on her game,” Stinebaugh said.

Krash Cartel was the fastest qualifier to the Ruidoso Futurity and finished second by a neck to PJ Chick In Black in the final. Just Wanna Corona, who scored his first career win in the trials, will break from Post 2.

A New Mexico-bred filly by Desirio, PJ Chick In Black has won five races, including the New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) on April 8 at Sunland Park and the Ruidoso Futurity (G1) on June 9. She races for Denny Bowen, his girlfriend, Susan Taylor, and Taylor's parents, John and Lynn Smith.

Supplemented to the All American for $50,000, PJ Chick In Black won the 24th of 26 trials on August 16 by a whopping 5 3/4 lengths under Esgar Ramirez. She set the fastest qualifying time of :21.081.

PJ Chick In Black is No. 1 on the AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Top-10 Poll for 2-year-olds. Her All American rivals include second-ranked One Dashing Eagle, winner of the Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) at Los Alamitos on June 24, and fourth-ranked BP Cartels Alibi, who won the Heritage Place Futurity at Remington Park on May 26.

The qualifiers to the All American Futurity, in post position order with their jockeys, are:

Sudden Thoughts, Rodrigo Aceves;
Just Wanna Corona, Freddie Martinez;
Native Tea Rose, Cody Jensen;
Mr Perry Cartel, Felipe Garcia-Luna;
Jess A Zoomin, G.R. Carter Jr.;
One Dashing Eagle, Ramon Sanchez;
Krash Cartel, Rodrigo Vallejo;

BP Cartels Alibi; Ricky Ramirez;

All starters will carry 120 pounds.
