The event will be held Sunday, September 2, at 10 a.m., on All American Derby day, under the grandstand at Ruidoso Downs's main entrance.
The new series of three cards include the images of the legendary retired Hall of Fame jockey, Charlie Smith (won 1963 All American on Goetta); active rider Roy Baldillez (won the 2011 All American aboard Ochoa); and retired Hall of Fame legend, Bobby Adair.
Roy Baldillez will be joining some of the riders from the previous sets in the ongoing series including G.R. Carter, Cody Jensen, Ramon Sanchez, Kenny Hart and Nicodemus. Though Charlie Smith or Bobby Adair can't join the event September 2, they have pre-signed cards that will be available.
Last year's signing event raised $5,000 for injured riders, and the riders unanimously chose Jacky Martin to be the benefactor. Martin had been scheduled to sign his own cards on Sunday last year, but was involved in a catastrophic spill on Friday that rendered him paralyzed.
Martin pre-signed a small amount of his cards prior to the accident last year, and one of those cards will be offered by 'Silent Auction' during the signing event also. All proceeds from this event will go to help an injured rider/riders, and the jockeys themselves will decide who needs the funds the most at the time of the event.
This collectable series that began in 2009 consists of four sets of three (12 cards total so far). Each set of three is offered for a donation of $10 or $5 for a single card. Only 1000 cards of each rider are printed, making them very collectable. Each card comes in a protective vinyl sleeve.
