Hays, Siegel Elected to Racing Council

New members Dr. Tommy Hays and Wade Siegel have been elected to the nine-member American Quarter Horse Association Racing Council. The Racing Council is elected by the 78 members of the AQHA Racing Committee. Council members serve a three-year term. It is the first time for both Dr. Hays and Siegel to serve on the Council.

Dr. Tommy Hays works at the Elgin Veterinary Hospital in Elgin, Texas, and specializes in orthopedic and soft-tissue surgery. An AQHA director, he is active in a number of organizations, including the Texas Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association, Texas Quarter Horse Association, Texas Thoroughbred Association, American Association of Equine Practitioners, and is a founding member of the Texas Equine Veterinary Medical Association and Texas H.O.R.S.E. Dr. Hays was the 1994 Texas Veterinarian of the Year. The 20-year cumulative breeder has bred the earners of more than $400,000, including stakes winners Oh Whatavictory and Jess Delightful. He raced stakes winner JTHS Warlock and, among others, he also races in partnership Grade 1 winner Sure Shot B, an earner of $532,214.

Wade Siegel splits his time between Portland, Oregon, and Los Angeles, where he is the president of Agron Inc., an exclusive distributor of Adidas accessories. Siegel has been involved in Quarter Horse racing since 2001, and raced AQHA Superior Race Horse Oh Bobbette. He bred, and now races in partnership, the stakes-winning Oak Tree Special gelding SC Captivator, and also raced in partnership stakes winners Man From Nocona, Dorothy Nell and races in partnership the stakes-placed runner BF Farm Boy. Siegel is currently the vice president of the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association and president of the Los Alamitos chapter of the Race Track Chaplaincy Association. Siegel and his wife, Tessa, have one son, Spencer, 9.

Members of the Racing Council include AQHA’s Second Vice President Johnny Trotter, Director and the Chairman of the Racing Committee Matt Witman, AQHA Past President Jerry Windham, Directors Dr. Steve Fisch and Vince Genco, and Racing Committee members Dan Lucas and Phillip Stewart.
