According to a news story posted on the website for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, a fire in the Ruidoso area has burned more than 26,000 acres in southeastern New Mexico but Ruidoso Downs Racetrack is not currently affected. A tweet from the Ruidoso Press Box (@RuiPressBox) indicated that the Little Bear Fire is 15 miles from the track and moving in the opposite direction.

“There haven’t been any horses evacuated because the racetrack is safe,” trainer Blane Wood told the Avalanche-Journal, “and the wind is blowing north of the track.”
