The early morning lines for the Grade 1, $2.6 million All American Futurity and the Grade 1, $2.8 million All American Derby reflect the exceptionally deep quality in each of the 440-yard races.

The All American Futurity on Labor Day is horse racing’s richest race for 2-year-olds in North America while the All American Derby on Sunday, September 1, will offer the largest purse in American Quarter Horse racing history.

These preliminary odds were compiled before the post position draw or the jockey for the finals was declared.

Ruidoso Downs’ racing secretary and morning-line maker Robby Junk has installed the undefeated Especially Tres as the 7-2 favorite for the All American Futurity with Ruidoso and Rainbow Derby winner Wicked Courage the 3-1 favorite in his quest to sweep the three Grade 1 derbies held during the Ruidoso Downs summer season.

Jim Pitts’ Especially Tres is unbeaten from four starts, including the Grade 2 Sam Houston Futurity, and her combined margin of victory is 11 lengths. The Blane Wood-trained filly was the second-fastest qualifier on the first of two days of trials with a :21.191 time for 440 yards while winning by 3 1/4 lengths.

Hes Relentless was the top qualifier on the first day of trials, and he is the second choice on the early morning line at 9-2 odds. The Amber Bair-trained colt turned in a :21.148 qualifying time. Owned by R.D. Hubbard, Tom Maher and Johnny Cope, Hes Relentless was second by a nose in the Grade 1, $1 million Heritage Place Futurity before coming to Ruidoso Downs and being supplemented for $50,000 to enter the All American Futurity trials.

The remainder of the finalists and their early morning-line odds are Houdini (5-1), Reagal Eagle (5-1), Wagon Tales (6-1), Handsome Jack Flash (8-1), You N How Many More (8-1), Wagon Full Of Gold (8-1), Skuze Pleeze (12-1) and Fatal Policy (15-1).

Andrew Smith’s Wicked Courage will need to rebound from a second-place run in his All American Derby trial if he is going to become the fourth horse to sweep the three Grade 1 derbies at Ruidoso Downs. He was second to fastest-qualifier Bon Accord in their trial and Wicked Courage scored the second-fastest qualifying mark.

Bon Accord covered the quarter-mile in :20.977 while Wicked Courage was clocked in :21.164.

A 34-1 odds in his trial, Bon Accord is 5-1 on the early morning line when he makes his stakes debut in the All American Derby for trainer Juan Aleman.

The Magic Dash, trained by Sleepy Gilbreath, is the 4-1 second-choice after winning his trial by three-quarters of a length for his second win from his latest three outs.

The early morning-line odds for the remainder of the field are Louisana Corona (5-1), Tayte Me Down (8-1), Point Break Dash (8-1), Feature Hero (8-1), Vancouver Moon (10-1), Elisas Secret (10-1) and Wonderboy (30-1).

Racing runs on a Friday through Monday schedule at Ruidoso Downs. There is always free parking and free general admission.
