Donation Saves NRQHA Incentive Program
Abigail Kawananakoa donation helps meet at Sun Downs.
April 23, 2012
According to a report on the website of
The Racing Journal
, a $20,000 donation by prominent breeder and owner Abigail Kawananakoa has saved the Northern Racing Quarter Horse Association incentive fund for the Sun Downs meet in Kennewick, Washington.
A combination of rising jockey insurance costs, increased operating expenses and a reduction of state funding had threatened to wipe out the NRQHA budget and eliminate the added-money incentives during the meet. Kawananakoa, who won the 1993 All American Futurity (G1) with A Classic Dash, is a part-time resident of Kennewick and made the donation when she heard about the financial situation for the Sun Downs meet, which opens April 21.
The incentive program is only available to current NRQHA members. To join or renew your membership in the NRQHA, see Nancy, Nellie, or Ginny at the track, or call Ginny at (509) 582-7924.
