Corona Cartel Colts Top Opening Session at Ruidoso Sale

High-seller goes for $350,000 on first day of sale.

Ruidoso Yearling Sale

Opening day of the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale on Friday was headlined by a colt by leading living sire of money earners Corona Cartel that sold for the highest price of $350,000. The prolific stallion also sired the second- and third high-sellers from day 1.

The first of three sessions saw 85 yearlings, of the 120 offered, sell for a $3,133,200 gross, averaging $36,861 and an outstanding median price of $30,000.

Edward C. Allred secured the session-topping Cartels Big Gun out of Grade 1-winning and producing Five Bar Molly, by Dash Ta Fame, from the Burns Ranch, agent, consignment. The brown colt is a brother to 2013 Ed Burke Million (G1) winner Five Bar Cartel (3 wins in 3 starts, $455,650).

Reliance Ranches LLC purchased Corona Rattler for $115,000 from Lazy E Ranch LLC, agent for Bollenbach Farms. The Corona Cartel colt out of Streakin Millie, by Streakin Six, is a half-brother to PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity (G1) winner Ancient Ruler ($331,265).

Belle Mere Farms Ltd., agent, sold Dash Around Blues, a brother to world champion Blues Girl Too ($2,032,328) to JK Running Horses LLC for $102,000. The Corona Cartel colt is out of Run The Dash, by Sixarun.

Reliance Ranches LLC led all buyers on the first night with five purchases totaling $352,000. Edward C. Allred had the one yearling for $350,000 and JK Running Horses LLC purchased three head for $185,000.

Burns Ranch, agent, was the leading consignor and/or agent in session one with four head totaling $467,000. Bobby D. Cox had five bring $201,500, and 6666 Ranch, agent, sold four head for $187,000.

Corona Cartel led all sale sires by average (two or more sold) with nine yearlings at $89,778. Mr Jess Perry had six average $56,833, and Tempting Dash saw two head average $53,500. World Champion Apollitical Jess led first sale crop sires with five head for $24,600.

The second session of the sale by be conducted beginning shortly after the final race at Ruidoso Downs Saturday (August 31). Hips #165 through #328 will be offered. The final session, hips #329 through #393, will be held Sunday evening.
