2012 challenge championships

The 20th running of the Bank of America Challenge Championships will happen October 27 at Prairie Meadows in Altoona, Iowa. This championship night brings together leading horses and horsemen from across the world.

The headline race during the Challenge Championships is the $350,000 Bank of America Challenge Championships (G1). Among the horses expected are Brazilian runner Dash Glory Ease, racing for Haras Fazenda Bela Ltda and champion Paul Jones. Also coming out of the Jones barn is champion Rylees Boy, who will attend his fourth consecutive Challenge Championships. Also expected is $1.6 million-earner Llano Teller, who last year won the All American Derby (G1).

Other Championship races include the $200,000 Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G1), $150,000 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2), $125,000 Merial Distaff Challenge Championship (G1), $125,000 Red Cell Distance Challenge Championship and $75,000 Pfizer Starter Allowance Challenge Championship.

On Wednesday, post positions will be drawn for the event. Saturday, owners will be recognized at a special brunch.

The AQHA Racing Conference opens October 25. A medication forum is set for Thursday starting at 8:30 a.m. At its conclusion are international and marketing subcommittee meetings.
