American Quarter Horse racing purses up 14 percent in August.

Numbers were strong for American Quarter Horse racing during the month of August, seeing gains in races, purses and handle.

Purses during the month of August were up 14.4 percent over the same time last year, reaching $9,292,572. Purses for the year are also up 2.8 percent. The biggest gains have come from races for horses aged 3 and up, with an 8.4 percent rise to date for the year.

Race numbers for the month of August are up 9.3 percent, reaching 893 races. The year-to-date numbers are also up 5 percent to 5,816.

Pari-mutuel handle also showed a gain of 1.3 percent during the month of August.

These figures do not include races processed by AQHA after September 6.
