Saddle Brook Jockey Club
The Saddle Brook Jockey Club, a simulcast facility, opens today in Amarillo, Texas.
It represents the first step toward a full racetrack, Saddle Brook Park, in the West Texas city. The racetrack has yet to be built. This summer, the group received Texas Racing Commission approval to simulcast at a temporary site for up to two years prior to opening the racetrack. Some of the money raised will go toward purses at other Texas tracks. The commission also granted two dates of mixed racing in 2014, from October 24-25.
Brothers Drew and Lynn Alexander co-own the facility. Drew purchased a Class 2 license in 2001 in preparation for a racetrack in Amarillo. Corey Johnsen and Ann McGovern, both of whom held significant leadership positions at other Texas racetracks, have been assisting in the project.
The club is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., as well as additional holiday hours. Visit
