The fallout from last week’s Grade 1 All American Futurity and Derby trials was felt in the latest AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Poll. The national 2-year-old picture now includes a new No. 1, while the older-horse division retained its No. 1 despite a surprising defeat.

The All American Futurity trials saw former No. 1-ranked juvenile Big Biz Perry capture victory, but not qualify on the timer with one of the day’s five-fastest times. Pollsters dropped Big Biz Perry two spots this week to No. 3. All American Futurity finalists shot up the rankings this week, including Especially Tres (No. 2), Hes Relentless (up five spots to No. 5), Houdini (No. 7), Wagon Tales (No. 9) and You N How Many More (No. 10). Unbeaten West Coaster Five Bar Cartel, winner of the Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) at Los Alamitos, inherited the top perch this week while sitting out the Ruidoso Downs road trip.

As for the older horses, Wicked Courage lost for the first time in 10 starts when defeated in his All American Derby trial last Saturday. But the nation’s No. 1-ranked runner aged 3 and up maintained a solid grasp on the poll’s top spot, 97-89, over Priceless Feature. Bon Accord, the upset winner over Wicked Courage, joined the rankings this week at No. 10 after a career-best effort.
