Fire Fortune broke his maiden on his first start as a 3-year-old, daylighting the field in a January 4 maiden race. He next qualified for the Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes and then ran seventh in the $100,000 final on February 22. The gelding followed that with an April 19 allowance win. Fire Fortune ran fourth in the Rainbow Derby (G1) before his All American trial.
Owner/Breeder: Noted horseman Jaime Gomez is most widely known as a trainer, being the sport's No. 8 all-time leading trainer with more than $21.8 million in earnings, but he's also the breeder of both Fire Fortune and the horse's full brother Giving It All, who qualified to the All American Futurity. Gomez has bred the earners of more than $3.5 million, including graded stakes winners Regal Fly, Corona For You, Separ Twist, Cocopata and Fly Me Anywhere.
Trainer: The all-time leading trainer by earnings, Paul Jones has been the Blane Schvaneveldt Champion Trainer from 2002-14. He has saddled horses that have made 21,191 starts, returning with 3,925 win and earning more than $78 million.
He trained Teller Cartel (2005), No Secrets Here (2006) and Runnning Brook Gal (2009) to wins in the All American Futurity; and Noconi and Inseperable to win the All American Derby.
This year he will also saddle Crooked Path and Hatefulist in the All American Futurity.
Jockey: Champion jockey Cody Jensen has ridden the earners of more than $32.1 million. They include back-to-back All American Futurity wins with Teller Cartel and No Secrets Here, and the 2009 All American Derby with Inseperable. All three of those wins were for Paul Jones.
Pedigree: Fire Fortune is one of 449 winners and the earners of more than $25.2 million from 695 starters by Walk Thru Fire, an 18-year-old son of First Down Dash out of the stakes-placed Beduino (TB) mare Sweet Beduino.
From 11 crops raced, Walk Thru Fire has sired seven champions and 49 other stakes winners. Owned by Los Alamitos owner Ed Allred and Mike Abraham, Walk Thru Fire stands at Dr. Steve and Jo Burns’ Burns Ranch at Menifee, California.
Bred by Gomez, Fire Fortune is a full brother Giving It All, the 10th-fastest qualifier to this year’s All American Futurity (G1). Fire Fortune is one of five winners and the earners of more than $205,000 from six starters out of the stakes-winning and Grade 1-placed Corona Cartel mare Sizzling ($147,912), who finished second in Eye Caughtcha Peekin’s John Deere Challenge Championship (G1) and ran in Ocean Runaway’s Los Alamitos Million Futurity (G1).
