Race record: A $50,000 supplemental entry, Houdini won the first trial in :21.233. Houdini now has won four of five starts, his only blemish being when he finished a very close second by a nose to Coronado Cartel in the April 20 Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity (R). Houdini came into the All American trials off the July 5 trials to the Rainbow Futurity (G1), when he scored by 1 1/2 lengths but in a time that failed to qualify for the final.
Breeder: Houdini was bred by Ellen Kennedy of Owasso, Oklahoma. In 40 years of breeding American Quarter Horses, Kennedy has been represented by 109 starters and the earners of more than $3.86 million from 113 named foals. Among the 14 stakes winners she bred are multiple Grade 1 winner Heza Ramblin Man ($750,907), Little Bit Of Ah Ha ($315,699), Adios My Amigos ($232,080), Rakin In The Cash ($242,707), Oklahoma Bandido ($162,609) and Spanish Boot ($128,208).

Trainer: Houdini is conditioned by Luis Villafranco, who also sent out Wicked Courage to win the Grade 1 Ruidoso and Rainbow derbies and is expected to be a heavy favorite in Saturday’s trials to the All American Derby (G1). Qualifying jockey: Houdini was ridden by Cody Jensen, who also rode Fly Thru The Fire to win the third trial for trainer Paul Jones. Fly Thru The Fire tied with You N How Many More for the fifth-fastest time but lost the shake. From 8,430 starts aboard American Quarter Horses, Jensen to date has ridden the winners of 1,415 races and the earners of $27,407,343. Jensen has won the All American Futurity twice, aboard Teller Cartel in 2005 and No Secrets Here in 2006, both for Jones. Jensen also rides Wicked Courage, who won the Grade 1 Ruidoso and Rainbow derbies.
Pedigree: Houdini is by the 9-year-old First Down Dash stallion Valiant Hero ($668,633), who won the 2006 Texas Classic Futurity (G1) and the 2007 Heritage Place Derby (G2). Valiant Hero is one of four stakes winners and seven other winners out of race champion and 1997 broodmare of the year Corona Chick, who has produced the earners of more than $3.62 million. Corona Chick is the dam of champion and All American Futurity (G1) winner Corona Cash ($1,542,880); second-all-time leading sire Corona Cartel, who has sired the earners of more than $42.49 million; and Corona Czech, who has sired the earners of more than $4.5 million. From 184 starters in three crops raced, Valiant Hero by 109 winners, including 13 stakes winners and the earners of more than $4.66 million.
Houdini is one of 10 starters, each a winner, out of the graded-stakes-winning Takin On The Cash mare Pure Oklahoma ($36,758). Pure Oklahoma has produced the earners of more than $773,000, including stakes winners Adios My Amigos ($232,080, by Make It Anywhere), Oklahoma Bandido ($162,609, by Take Off Jess) and Oklahoma Cartel ($59,756, by Carters Cartel).
