A Spring Snow Demolishes Pfizer Starter Allowance Challenge Field

November 19, 2010

Favorite A Spring Snow demolished the field in the $75,000 Pfizer Starter Allowance Challenge at Fair Grounds.

Ridden by Esgar Ramirez, the 5-year-old gelding went the 350 yards in :17.466 and won by 2 ½ lengths over Dashin Spirit 123.

“The horse broke a little low, but that's the way he always kind of breaks,” said Ramirez. “At 40 or 50 yards, he picked up the ground and started passing them real easy. It was his first time under the lights. He's a great horse and my friend trains him. He did a really good job as trainer.”

A Spring Snow is owned and trained by Abraham Jaquez. He earned $34,500 for the win, which boosts his lifetime record to 11 wins in 33 starts and earnings of $147,127.

Jaquez claimed the gelding for $6,250 on October 5, 2009, and this year he has won eight of 11 starts.

“I was pretty confident tonight,” said Jaquez. “I didn’t think he’d turn into this kind of horse when I got him. I don’t know what we are going to do with him next, but we'll bring him to Sunland. This is one of the biggest wins of my career.”

Classy Runaway Form was third, followed by Opalesce, Big Bad Mike, SC Captivator, Snow Patrol, SFR Mary Louise, Corona Perks and American Red Hot.

Bred by Gordon and Lynn Nees of Graham, Texas, A Spring Snow is by This Snow Is Royal out of the Special Effort mare Lexines Legacy.
