The 2012 Battle in the Saddle features $43,000 added for American Rope Horse Futurity Association entries, plus four sets of points for AQHA entries.

Battle in the Saddle is proud to partner with the American Rope Horse Futurity Association in presenting classes for roping competitors of all skill levels and types of experience.

Battle in the Saddle is adding $24,000 to the open and amateur roping classes and ARHFA is adding $16,000 to the limited roping classes. AQHA is adding $3,000 to the AQHA amateur and Select amateur only classes.

The $43,000 in added money is split up as follows:

Limited rider eligibility will be determined by ARHFA on www.ropehorsefuturity.com. In order to enter the limited rider portion (run concurrently with the open), the exhibitor must also be entered in the open. The limited rider portion is offered as a side-pot and requires an additional $100 entry fee.

  • Four sets of AQHA points – two sets in the first go-round and two sets in the second go-round.
  • To compete at the Battle in the Saddle AQHA portion of the roping classes, all riders and horse owners must be current, card-holding members in good standing with AQHA. Memberships in AQHA can be purchased at the show.
  • Health papers and negative Coggins (1 year) required at barn check-in.
  • Horses entered in the ARHFA class will be automatically entered in the corresponding AQHA class.
  • $250 added in each go-round of Select amateur heading, Select amateur heeling, amateur tie-down, amateur breakaway, Select amateur tie-down and Select amateur breakaway.
  • AQHA points earned in open and amateur events at the Battle in the Saddle will count towards qualification for the 2012 AQHA Bank of America Amateur and FedEx Open world championship shows.
  • For Select amateurs, AQHA points earned in amateur or Select amateur events at Battle in the Saddle will count towards qualification for the 2013 Adequan Select World Championship Show.
  • All entries will be judged by AQHA judges approved by ARHFA.
  • Show management reserves the right to limit the number of entries taken.
  • All entry forms, including the AQHA waiver of liability, must be signed by an owner, agent or exhibitor.
  • All entry forms must include the owner's social security number.
  • Amateur riders must be in compliance with ownership Rule 403 of AQHA’s Official Handbook of Rules and Regulations.
  • All equipment, attire and basic rules for the class will be in accordance with AQHA’s Official Handbook.

Other Information:
  • ARHFA defines junior age classes (5 years and younger) as futurity classes
  • ARHFA defines senior age classes (6 years and older) as sweepstakes classes
  • ARHFA non-pro classes are equivalent to AQHA amateur classes
  • Class procedures for Rope Horse Futurity sweepstakes/futurity/non-pro:
    • There will be two go-rounds and a finals
    • Two sets of judges per go-round with two judges in the finals
    •  In the go-rounds, two judges will score the run.
      • The run will also be timed
      • The judges scores will be added together
      • The resulting time will be the “total time” subtracted from 60
      • The two judges scores, plus the resulting time, will be added together for a total score from each go-round
      • The top-five head from the first go-round will advance to the finals
      • The top-five head from the second go-round, except for those riders that already qualified through the first go-round, will advance to the finals.
    • The finals will be judged and scored exactly like the first and second go-round. All riders advancing to the finals will compete for a new score. Go-round scores will not be added to the final score.
  • Class procedures for AQHA points:
    • In the first and second go-round, two judges will score the run in accordance with the AQHA Official Handbook and each of their scores will determine a placing and awarded as points
    • No points will be awarded in the finals
  • Payout includes the added money per class plus 80 percent of the jackpot. The payout will be divided as follows:
    • 20 percent for first go
    • 20 percent for second go
    • 60 percent in finals
  • Payback per entries are as follows:
    • 1-10 entries: 100 percent in finals (one go only)
    • 11-15 entries
      • Go-rounds: 60/40 percent
      • Finals: 50/30/20 percent
    • 16-25 entries
      • Go-rounds: 50/30/20 percent
      • Finals: 40/30/20/10 percent
    • 26-39 entries
      • Go-round: 40/30/20/10
      • Finals: 29/24/19/14/9/5 percent
    • 40 and more entries
      • Top-four places in go-rounds and finals will be paid on a 40/30/20/10 percent scale with fifth-10th place in finals receiving prize money equal to entry fee paid in that class.

  • Horses will be allowed on the show grounds beginning at noon on July 2.

However, competitors are encouraged to enter in advance to ensure their paperwork is in order!
