Battle in the Saddle is proud to partner with the National Cutting Horse Association in having this competition designated as a Mercuria/NCHA World Series of Cutting event!

Rules

  • To compete in the Battle in the Saddle cutting classes, all riders and horse owners must be current, card-holding members in good standing with AQHA and NCHA. Memberships in AQHA and NCHA can be purchased at the time of entry or at the show.
  • Health papers and negative Coggins (1 year) required at barn check-in.
  • A current copy of the horse’s registration paper – no matter the breed – will be required at time of entry in order to verify current ownership. 
  • All registered American Quarter Horses who enter NCHA classes will automatically be entered in the AQHA portion of the class. Exhibitors in the NCHA non-pro and $50,000 amateur must be a current AQHA amateur member to be cross-entered. All scores for the AQHA class will be recorded from the NCHA go-round. 
  • Riders/owners may enter only the AQHA portion of the class at the appropriate fee. Riders entered in the AQHA portion only will be worked at the end of the last set of cattle. 
  • Riders can show a maximum of two horses in the NCHA open and $10,000 novice horse class; however, a rider may show only one horse in the NCHA non-pro or $50,000 amateur classes. 
  • All draws shall be in accordance with NCHA rules. 
  • All premiums shall be paid according to the current NCHA rules and regulations. (Mercuria/NCHA World Series of Cutting events are exempt from using the percentage payout system). 
  • All entries shall be judged by NCHA and AQHA certified judges. 
  • The Mercuria/NCHA World Series open and non-pro classes and the $10,000 novice horse and $50,000 amateur classes will have one go-round and a finals. The top 25 percent of entries from each class go-round will advance to the finals with a minimum of six and a maximum of 12. The top 50 percent in the finals will receive a check based on the NCHA unit payout system, with all finalists to receive a base pay of two times their entry fee. The $10,000 novice horse and the $50,000 amateur classes will be paid per Standing Rule 13 of the 2012 NCHA Rulebook regarding classes with $5,000 and more in added money.
  • All competitors must sign a waiver of liability, which must accompany their entry. 
  • All entry forms must be signed by an owner, agent or exhibitor. 
  • All entry forms must include the owner's social security number. 
  • All classes will be held in the State Fair Park Norick Arena. 
  • There will be a minimum of four cattle per cutter in open and non-pro classes and three cattle per cutter in amateur and $10,000 limited classes. 
  • AQHA points earned in open and amateur (or non-pro) events at the Battle in the Saddle will count towards qualification for the 2012 AQHA Bank of America Amateur and FedEx Open world championship shows.
  • For Select amateurs, AQHA points earned in amateur (or non-pro) events at the Battle in the Saddle will count towards qualification for the 2012 Bank of America Amateur or the 2013 Adequan Select world championship shows.

All other rules, regulations, terms and conditions of the sanctioning body, the Battle in the Saddle shall be incorporated into the competition as outlined in those various entity’s published rules and regulations.
