Shows represent a major segment of the industry. American Quarter Horse shows offer youth, amateur, Select amateur and open classes for horsemen and women to compete with their American Quarter Horses, testing their skills against other horses and riders for AQHA halter and performance points, as well as cash awards and prizes.

Developed from the village lanes of colonial America, American Quarter Horse racing brings the thrill and excitement of closely matched American Quarter Horses racing at speeds in excess of 40 miles per hour.

Bank of America Racing Challenge

Since the Bank of America Racing Challenge began in 1993, the program has distributed more than $60 million to breeders and owners of racing American Quarter Horses. More than half of all purses and awards are paid for by sources other than horsemen.

The program was founded with four goals:

  • To develop a regional, national and international program for racing American Quarter Horses with an emphasis on older horses;

  • To support and foster American Quarter Horse racing on a regional basis;

  • To host an American Quarter Horse championship race day of international importance and impact;

  • To secure corporate partnerships to help fund the program.

Over the years, the Racing Challenge has grown to accommodate horses of all skills, from $5,000 claimers to potential world champions, plus every level in between.

The Bonus Challenge races offer Challenge-enrolled horses many more racing opportunities at numerous tracks across the U.S. and Canada. The Bank of America Maiden Challenge races offer additional racing opportunities for Challenge enrolled horses that have not won an official race.

American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum

Opened in 1991, it is one of the most visible programs administered by the American Quarter Horse Foundation and is located adjacent to AQHA headquarters in Amarillo, Texas. The Hall of Fame & Museum celebrated a grand reopening in 2007.

The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum is host to:

  • Hall of Fame -- individuals and horses who have made history with AQHA

  • Library -- the most comprehensive collection of equine information in the country

  • Quarter Horse Outfitters -- store filled with artwork, clothes, home décor and more

  • Justin Boots Arena -- demonstration arena for the American Quarter Horse

  • Traveling Exhibits -- various collections of sculptures, paintings and artifacts

American Quarter Horse Youth Association

Designed for American Quarter Horse enthusiasts 18 years of age and younger, established on the premise of expanding youth participation with and knowledge of the American Quarter Horse. AQHYA currently has more than 27,000 members.
